The treatment and storage of reactive chemicals generally requires constant shielding against the harmful impact of air or other oxidizing substances. This can be done by using a pure shielding gas.
Nuclear power plants use nitrogen as a shielding gas and for pressurization. The safe treatment of various industrial wastes requires the use of shielding gases. Waist materials can be separated by exploiting the coldness of liquid nitrogen. Cryogenic grinding can achieve a very fine level of grind as most hardy materials tend to become brittle when cooled with liquid nitrogen.
The efficiency of biological cleaning of waste waters can be increased through the use of pure oxygen. As a weak acid, CO2 is well suited for accurate pH-adjustment. The storing of wood pellets and coal in silos can create smouldering fires difficult to control; we have developed efficient methods based on the use of inert gases for the safe extinguishing of such fires. Pellets of dry ice can be used for the efficient cleaning of difficult-to-clean sites without the need for solvents, water or sand. Causing no wear to the base material, the method is quick, completely dry, produces no other waste and decreases the need for finishing work. The efficiency of the method can be freely adjusted to meet the requirements of both fragile and robust sites.
